Vmware, Mobile Virtual platforms for mobile phones
The demonstration of the new virtualization platform for mobile devices – Vmware Mobile Virtualization Platform (MVP) was one of the key events of the recent technological conference VWorld Europe 2009. If we are used to virtual machines for table PC, in the pocket electronic device this trend was not properly developed yet.
According to the VMware technical director Stephen Herrod, MVP technology will allow the users to use two or more operational systems on one phone. As it is knows, virtual machines take a lot of system memory space. But MVP developers assure that their product uses just 20 Kb of the RAM memory.
The possibility of installing one virtual machine on more than one device is very attractive as it will ease data transfer between them and will ease the working surroundings and painless transfer from work with one device to another.
During Herrod’s speech jerry Chen, VMware corporate table platform director, joined him. He presented Internet- sheet Nokia N800 with installed virtual machine MVP. Having 128 MB memory size and 256 Mb flash card memory, this device coped with parallel working operational systems Windows CE 6.0 and Google Android, each of them being started in different virtual machine. According to Chen, each VM requires about 40 Mb disk space.
MVP is already being checked by mobile phones producers but the dates of its availability to the phone users VMware has not mentioned yet.
